Liz Karter is considered the leading UK specialist in gambling addiction in women. Practicing since 2001 she has successfully helped hundreds of men and women move beyond addiction and into successful, rewarding lives.
With an excellent reputation for making sense of gambling addiction and with an approachable style, Liz frequently appears as leading UK expert on national and international television, radio and in newsprint, including ‘ This Morning’ ITV (2010 & 2014) Al Jazeera America TV ( 2014) Sky TV News (Jan & Feb 2014) BBC Breakfast TV News (2014) Good Morning Britain ITV (2015) Radio 4 ‘You and ‘Yours’ Woman’s Hour’ and ‘The Daily Mail’, ‘The Independent’.
Liz has published two books with Routledge, “Women and Problem Gambling” and‘Working with Women’s Groups for Problem Gambling’ . She has also published chapter on gambling addiction in “Addiction from an Attachment Perspective.” with Karnac publishing. Liz frequently writes for addiction publications worldwide.
In January 2010 having worked with all leading UK problem gambling treatment agencies, and having established the first UK gambling addiction recovery groups for women, Liz launched Level Ground. A private practice in the heart of the City of London, Level Ground provides treatment for gambling addiction in women based on Liz’s unique experience of what really does work for women wanting life long recovery.
Liz continues to run Level Ground Groups for women in recovery from gambling addiction – a part of her not for profit work.
A regular conference speaker, Liz’s speaking engagements have included, the National Lottery Commission, GamCare, The Society for the Studies of Gambling (SSG),European Association for the Study of Gambling (EASG) ,The Bowlby Memorial Conference, Maria .Com conference,for the Taylor Francis Group & the “Gender Issues in Gambling” Conference Hohenheim University (2014) and Lincoln University @Women and Problem Gambling Conference(2015)
A highly experienced trainer, Liz regularly designs and delivers bespoke training packages at a clinical and corporate level – making sense of gambling addiction.
Liz is a member of Community Action for Responsible Gambling (CARG) is on the Editorial Board of Journal of Alcohol and Drug Dependence and an Associate of EPIC Problem Gambling Consultancy. She has for three consecutive years judged the social responsibility category of the International Gaming Awards (2012, 2013, 2014)
